Following the signed  Commitment letter between the Council of Europe and Kirovograd city administration on joining the ROMED2 program, the National Focal Point together with the  national trainer conducted the first Community Action Group in Kirovograd  on July 1, 2014,

Launching of ROMED and First Training Session of Mediators, Vilnius, Lithuania

From 19th to 21st June, the first ever ROMED training session for Mediators was launched in Vilnius, Lithuania. The event gathered close to 20 highly motivated participants, who act as Roma mediators, Roma leaders, pedagogical and social assistants.

The training session was hosted by the Public Institution Roma Community Centre (supporting organisation for the implementation of the ROMED programme in Lithuania) in cooperation with the National Focal Point for Lithuania, Ms Ana Rozanova.

The International Pedagogical team for this training is composed by Ms Alexandra Raykova (Bulgaria), Ms Zemfira Kondur (Ukraine) and Mr Konstantin Stech (Lithuania).

ROMED2: National Launching Meeting and Workshop, Kiev, Ukraine, 20-21 May 2014

Between 20th and 21st of May 2014, ROMED2 was officially launched in Kiev (Ukraine), with the presence of representatives from various ministries, local and regional administrations, Roma NGOs, Roma mediators, and the facilitators of the Community Action Groups from the five selected municipalities/regions that joined the programme: Odessa, Uzhgorod, Kirovograd, Kiev, and Pereyalslav-Khmlenytskyi.

Conference on social policy innovation - 19-20 May 2014, Brussels

The European Commission conference will focus on the role of social policy innovation and social investment in implementing structural reforms at country level.
The conference is structured around four thematic sessions:
- Social policy reforms: the role of social policy innovation, social investments and knowledge-sharing
- Social policy innovation: using the potential of ESI Funds
- Partnerships for innovation in social policies
- Evidence-based research relevant for policy making

A show-casing session will be devoted to ESF/experiences in Roma inclusion.

National governments in Europe can greatly enhance the implementation of their National Roma Integration Strategies and social inclusion more broadly. One proven way of doing this is by providing assistance to local authorities and organizations to access and implement projects financed by European Structural and Investment Funds.

7th CAHROM Meeting, 14 to 16 May 2014, Strasbourg

On 14 May 2014 the 7th Meeting of the Ad-Hoc Committee of Experts on Roma Issues (CAHROM) will start in Strasbourg, where over 80 national experts and representatives of different CoE bodies, EU Institutions and International Organisations confirmed attendance.

Bulgaria: news from Shumen and Byala Slatina

On the 28th of April in Byala Slatina a meeting took place between the Community Action Group (CAG) and the Mayor of the municipality – eng. Ivo Tzvetkov. During the meeting the problems of the Roma community identified by the CAG were presented, along with proposals for initiatives to solve these issues, the question of the participation of the Community Action Group in the newly established Municipal Council on Ethnic and Integration Issues, and the future update of the strategy on the integration of Roma of the municipality.

The European Economic and Social Committee launches the Civil Society Prize 2014

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is announcing the launch of its sixth EESC Civil Society Prize, worth a total of EUR 30,000. This year's prize will be awarded to initiatives aimed at Roma integration.

All civil society organisations and/or individuals who have carried out projects that improve the economic and social inclusion of Roma are invited to enter this competition.
